My Name is Rayan, 35-years-old mother of two kids, I endured years of emotional abuse from my husband, when the conflict escalated in Khartoum , my husband abandoned the family leaving me alone to protect and provide care and needs for the two young kids with no income and no safety, I faced extremehardship—but I refused to give up.
I heard about NADA Elazhar and
the support they provide for women like me, so when NADA mobile team came and
provided Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) sessions in the
gathering site, where I have been accommodated after been deported from Egypt.
I gathered the courage and
decided to report my
husbands abandonment and
neglection to the court.
Intervention:
I visited NADA’s Office, I met the case worker
and I told her my problem, facing multiple challenges, including depression and
frustration, financial instability, inadequate food and medication for the two
children and lack of access to childcare and mental health resources.
The NGO provided me with legal aid, PSS and
cash assistant. I won my claim of absantee divorce and gained full custody of
my children.
Rebuilding my Life:
The NGO didn’t stop at legal support and PSS, they enrolled me in small
business program from different grant, where I received training in small
business management, marketing and saving and investment and gave me a start-up
grant to launch my business (making
pastry, Sudanese women perfumes and selling goods).
Success & Independence:
Today, I am running the small business, I sent my sons to school, and I am sharing
my story to inspire
hope.
" I was broken, but
now I stand tall," she says. "No woman should suffer in silence— If
there is possible help."
